Asa de Vries
Senior Co-Lead
Asa de Vries is a former co-lead for BLUEM. He is a senior studying civil engineering, and hopes to work to improve public transit in the US through both practical design and policy. His experience in BLUEM has been nothing but positive and rewarding, and has elevated his college experience to unimaginable heights.
Gaby is a former co-lead of BLUElab Metro. She is a junior studying Chemical Engineering. Gaby is passionate about community, sustainable innovation, and equity, and she loves working at the intersection of these with BLUElab and socially engaged design. In the future, Gaby hopes to work on reducing waste by enhancing sustainable practices in consumer products, manufacturing, or design.

Rania Uppal
Junior Co-Lead
Rania Uppal is a co-lead for BLUEM and a sophomore studying computer science with a strong interest in entrepreneurship. Rania hopes to create technologies that help reduce social inequities through engineering and sustainable design. Her favorite part of BLUEM is being able to connect with like-minded UM students passionate about socially engaged design while also making an impact on her local communities.

Mobin Mazloomian
Junior Co-Lead
Mobin is a co-lead for BLUEM who is studying Mechanical Engineering as a junior. He joined BlueLab to learn about the ways to use his degree to create equitable and sustainable technologies for the benefit of the world with other motived, like-minded students. Upon graduating he would like to go into the development of green energy and infrastructure which prioritizes the well-being of communities and the environment.

Brandon Surhigh
Project Manager
Brandon is a project manager for BLUEM. He is a senior studying energy and sustainability within mechanical engineering. BLUEM has given him the opportunity to use socially engaged design to identify problems and create useful solutions in local communities. One day he would like to work with the government to provide functional and sustainable infrastructure to those who need it most.
Austin Tauber
Project Manager
Austin is a project manager for BLUEM. He is a junior studying chemical engineering with an international minor for engineers. He hopes to one day apply principles of chemical engineering to work on alternative energy sources. Working with BLUEM has provided Austin the opportunity to see the connection between needs in a community and design work that can address those needs.

Business Team Lead
Elise is the business team lead for BLUEM. She is a senior studying Industrial and Operations Engineering with a minor in Computer Science. One day she would like to work for a company that champions sustainability. Her favorite part of BLUEM is how it’s allowed her to meet and work with people from different backgrounds on projects that push her to think creatively and technically.
